Cristiano Ronaldo Dos Santos Aveirio (pronounced [kɾɨʃˈtiɐnu ʁuˈnaɫdu]), OIH, (born 5 February 1985[2] in Funchal, Madeira) is a Portuguese footballer who plays for Premier League club Manchester United and the Portuguese national team. With Manchester United, Ronaldo plays primarily as a right winger.[3] He has also been used both in a central attacking role and as a second striker.[4]

A winner of the 2007 English PFA Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards, and third in the 2007 World Player of the Year award, Ronaldo is widely regarded as one of the most talented footballers of his generation.[5] Ronaldo also won the 2008 English PFA Player of the year award and FWA Footballer of the Year, giving him back to back victories for both awards.[6][7] Johan Cruyff said in an April 2, 2008 interview, "Ronaldo is better than George Best and Denis Law, who were two brilliant and great players in the history of United."[8]

He was voted "World's Best Goalkeeper" in 1995, 1997, & 1998, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers in the history of football.

Besides being one of the best goalkeepers of his time, Chilavert was also known for his skills as a free kick specialist, and often took penalties. His pioneering of this expertise in his position made him the all-time leading scorer among professional keepers until Brazilian Rogério Ceni passed him in 2006. He scored 62 goals in his professional career, many of them crucial, including eight in international matches. Maradona won many trophies with Boca Juniors, FC Barcelona and SSC Napoli over the course of his career. When his club Fiorentina was relegated to Serie B in 1993, Batistuta stayed with the club and helped it return to the top-flight league a year later. He never won the Italian league with Fiorentina, but when he moved to AS Roma in 2000, he finally won the Serie A championship to crown his career in Italy.
